Well I’ve finished the soft skirted dress and have posted pictures here of it.  My goal was to construct the dress in a way that allowed the dancer to move easily in the dress with no thigh bruising and no unneccesary flapping of the panels.  All the panels are separate and the ruffle is attached to a short stiffened panel that is attached only at the waist.  The back of the skirt has only a heavyweight interfacing, so the overall dress is quite light.

I had a couple of dancers in our school try it on, and the opinion, thankfully, was a big thumbs up.  I liked the way the dress moved when the dancer spun and the dress moved nicely during leaps.

The next dress is already started and will have a full gathered skirt with the panels laying on top.  Pictures to come soon of the process.
